Swiss driver, Simona De Silvestro has proven that she is one of the most successful female drivers in open -wheel racing. Simona is the first women in Atlantic Championship series history to have earned the most wins, poles positions and lead the most laps in a single season. Driving in the 2013 IndyCar season, Simona had nine top-10 finishes, including her first podium finish with a second place finish in Houston. In 2014 Simona signed as an affiliate driver with Formula One team, Sauber, putting her on track to become the first full-time female driver in Formula One and the first female to attempt to qualify for an F1 race since Italian Lella Lombardi (who qualified for 12 Grands Prix in 1975 and 1976). As the spokeswoman for the Clean Air Energy campaign, Simona participates in community outreach raising awareness of the importance of safe, clean, reliable and sustainable energy while advocating the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education and female empowerment. From the racetrack to the classroom and beyond, De Silvestro is a role model for young women around the globe and proof that with hard work and determination goals are obtainable regardless of gender.
